Dr. Shawn Hlavaty brings a rare blend of artistic vision and advanced clinical expertise to Santa Barbara, Montecito, and Summerland. Before entering dentistry, he spent more than a decade as a landscape architect—an experience that shaped his eye for form, balance, and natural aesthetics. That creative foundation, paired with a long-standing interest in orthodontic design, ultimately inspired him to pursue dentistry. He earned his degree in Biology from the University of Utah before completing his dental education at New York University. Dr. Hlavaty went on to receive advanced implant and surgical training through NYU in partnership with the Oral Surgery Clinics at Bellevue Hospital and NYU Medical Center. After years of practicing in Santa Barbara—focusing on implants, grafting, complex reconstruction, and cosmetic dentistry—he founded Hlavaty Dental Arts to offer a more elevated, patient-centered experience. Today, Dr. Hlavaty is known for combining precision, artistry, and thoughtful communication. He partners closely with each patient, whether they come in for preventive care or comprehensive aesthetic restoration, ensuring their treatment feels both seamless and deeply personalized. Outside the practice, Dr. Hlavaty enjoys time with his family and exploring the outdoors—snowboarding, mountain biking, off-roading, and traveling—along with playing guitar and discovering new live music.
